China to Stimulate Consolidation in Handset Production Industry

According to the China Business News, the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry plans to stimulate consolidation in the mobile phone manufacturing industry by setting minimum standards for makers' market share and output. The ministry will evaluate makers' performance periodically, and those failing to meet the standards will have to stop operations. The ministry expects that during the next three years about 20 of the current 63 makers will withdraw from the industry.
